How to Crochet the Infinity Neck Warmer for Small Dog Breeds

Oh how we love our little furry friends. Keeping warm during winter is easy if we supply them with a little warm love around their necks or backs.

Here is a quick and easy Infinity Neck Warmer crochet pattern for your little furry friend.

Infinity Neck Warmer Crochet Pattern.

Pattern shown here is a different version of the same pattern.

Crochet hook - Q size large blue hook
Yarn- Lyon Brand thick & quick -Pink

Double up the yarn, by rounding up two balls

Measure your dogs neck, and create a chain to meet that exact measurement.
The yarn does give so, if your measurements are exact this gives space needed, and provides a nice perfect fit.

The pattern below is for neck size measuring 11 inches

With both strands of yarn, and hook
Rnd 1- * CH 17, be sure your chain is not twisted, join with sl st to first ch.
rnd 2 - Ch 1, Repeat from *
Repeat once more, or as needed for desired width.

Once you have completed the rounds, fasten off. Take the strands on both sides, tie a loose half knot to the front of the warmer, and wrap the remaining strands to the back side of the warmer, and tie a full knot to complete.

That's it!
Embellish with a cute button, or re-purpose a vintage piece and clip it on. Use your imagination.

How to Burn Body Fat and Lose 2 Pounds Per Week

How to safely, and effectively burn two pounds of body fat each week and keep it off!

New Years Resolutions bring about many changes for the New Year, so what about the weight loss goals you have set out to accomplish year after year, that started off well, yet fail miserably every time?

Are you one who will say, ?"This year is going to be the year I loose this weight!" 

I'm sure there is a diet or two you haven't tried, Unfortunately loosing weight this way isn't the safest or least expensive route. Chances are you will only gain it back, and more of it.

If you follow this advice you will burn body fat safely and effectively. Loosing actual body fat that wont just creep back on in a couple of months or when you run out of that wondrous diet pill that costs an arm and a leg.

You may not like what I'm about to say about HOW to lose that weight for good, BUT...

In order to get the results you have been looking for you are going to have to incorporate some type of exercise.  

The key is to pay attention to your body and with the use of the following tools you should be able to see the pounds drop away. It is not going to happen over night  so patience, persistence and perseverance is vital, and if you want this bad enough, you will see results!

  • Heart Monitor (fit bit)
  • Body Fat Analyzer
  • Healthy diet
  • Eliminate sugar or sugary foods
  • Eliminate Alcohol
                        Step 1 

Food Guide Pyramid

The main thing you will need to consider of course is the types of foods you are eating,(no diet plan to follow). I recommend eating three meals per day, following the food guide pyramid guidelines. Eliminate or cut down on sugar and alcohol. Alcohol slows down metabolism. If you want to loose body fat cut out these two things and you'll begin to notice a difference in the way your body burns fat.

                        Step 2

Full Body Muscle Chart 

People come to me and say, " I lost 5 lbs this week, isn't that great?" Well...(Hate to be the bearer of bad news)but,the answer is NO. Loosing 5 lbs of body fat in one week is not realistic nor is it SAFE. More then likely, what you have lost is water weight and muscle. muscle burns fat so, you definitely do not want to loose the muscle.

Step 3 

                        Fat Analyzer 

Now, in order to loose the body fat, you will need to determine how much body fat your body has verses lean mass.  There is a variety of ways to measure body fat but one simple way would be to invest in a hand held "Fat Analyzer". They usually run anywhere from $35.00 to $50.00. There are a variety of different types. Fat Analyzer is something you will keep and use for years, so it's worth the investment. The fat analyzer works based on the information you  will program into it, such as your gender, age, weight, and fitness level. Once programmed, simply, hold the fat analyzer in your hands until it stops, and you get a reading. It measures by using invisible electrode that go back and forth inside your body measuring (BMI) Body Mass Index which determines the degree of body fat or obesity verses lean mass.

Step 4  


Obesity Shows
Some people might not feel a need for the Body Fat Analyzer at first because they can see for themselves. However, DO NOT GIVE UP.  Know that you are going to need more time to develop your muscles. This can work for you, if you apply it. Simply get started.  Start a walking program and be sure to make an appointment to see your regular physician to have a physical. Let your physician help you take the steps toward building muscle.

 Polar Heart Rate Monitor

Be ready to take your fitness level up a notch, (which combines increase in lean muscle mass, and cardiovascular health) . Think about purchasing a Heart Monitor. The  Polar brand Heart Rate Monitor is one most recommend. It has advanced technology. Make sure to purchase one that tracks and uses beeping sounds which informs you're in what is called the "fat burning zone".  Maximize this tool, and avoid purchase of the basic model. 
Read  up on what it can do for you before you purchase it and be sure to use it every time you exercise. This little device when programmed with your personal data will help YOU reach your fitness goals. It is the most effective tool for measuring proper intensity and heart rate.

                        Step 6

Body's Energy Source (ATP) Chart 

What is the fat burning zone? "You might ask" Fat burning zone is a based on several different factors. The body uses different levels of energy in exercise. The fat burning zone is the zone, which says you are working heart and muscles hard enough to burn fat, determined by the heart rate. The body uses (ATP)- Adenozine Triphosphate. (ATP) is formed in the body as a source of energy, like gas to a car? It uses metabolic pathways all having to do with heart rate, oxygen in the body, and loading or impact on the larger muscles.
Cardiovascular training /aerobic are synonyms and both uses (ATP). In order to burn fat effectively, you will need to combine full body muscle building exercise such as strength training. Another way would be to begin taking Pilate's or Yoga two times per week (for over-all body workout)whatever you choose, combine it with aerobic exercise at least three times per week alternating between the two.

Step 7 


Finding your exercise routine bliss. What type of exercise do you love, that would make cardiovascular exercise enjoyable? It could be swimming, running, rollerblading, jumping rope, ice-skating, or even walking. Whatever it is, you are going to do this at least 30 minutes per day three times per week minimum. If you want to do five days... Great! Now, it takes at least 10 minutes to warm up and a total of 15 minutes (including warm-up) just to access the fat burning zone. Once in the fat burning zone(determined by your handy-dandy heart monitor), you're well on your way; get ready to burn!

Step 8 

Journal Progress 

Now here is where the real fun begins.  Writing and logging your exercise progress in an exercise journal. This will be an important tool for tracking daily activity. By now, assuming you have measured your body fat, scale weight, and current exercise regimen. 
Document all the things you enjoy doing; it could be favorite exercise or exercises you would like to try. Be sure to record work-outs specific to entering your "Fat Burning Zone".  Example : Let say the monitor tracked you in 15 minutes, but you exercised for 30 minutes. Log that information.
Swam 30 minutes heart monitor tracked progress, fat zone for 15 minutes. At the end of every week calculate and total up how many hours you were in the zone take a measure of your body fat calculation and see where and how you progressed. This information will be helpful to determine changes you will need to make.

Tips & Warnings
  • Healthy diet avoid sugar and alcohol
  • Build all three levels of fitness which combine strength,cardiovascular and flexibility.
  • Make sure to eat a balanced diet three times per day. Skipping meals or not eating, will only work against you. The body stores fat to compensate.
  • If you have less then 50% body fat and you want to go from an average weight to fitness level, you'll greatly benefit from having these tools.
  • Record journal log daily, do not forget to record amount of time spent in your target heart rate/fat burning zone. Journal writing can be very effective tool. It will also help you SEE what needs to be done (more or less). It will also help you to see when to change exercise program to prevent Plateauing.
  • Keep slow steady pace while reaching your goals. Avoid rapid yo-yo dieting and weight loss.
  • Metabolism might take time to build so be patient in the process.
  • If you feel faint of dizzy while exercising. STOP.
  • Use CAUTION when exercising your heart, make sure you know your own body capacity.
  • Rapid weight loss wastes muscle tissue and causes the body to gain twice as much the next time, that is the danger of loosing weight too fast.
  • Over 40 years of age? Check with your physician before exercising.

How a Frozen Tomato Can Reduce Pimples Overnight !

How a frozen tomato held over a pimple, can work magic overnight!

Yummy cherry tomatoes taste great picked & eaten straight from the garden.  There are hundreds of uses, with which, adding tomatoes create amazing flavor to salads, pasta sauces, or bruschetta; yet how often do we think of applying a cherry tomato to our face?

It has been noted that tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, A, and vitamin K.  And when this delicious tomato is applied to the skin can help act as a bacteria fighting agent, which can greatly reduce acne breakouts overnight.
During teenage years, many of us tend to develop acne.  Some of us have breakouts more severe than others. (severe acne? See treatment recommendation below).  

Whether you want to get rid of a single pimple or just an occasional breakout try the following steps for quick acne cure overnight.

Step 1

Place a hand full or more of cherry tomatoes, into a freezer bag, and store in the freezer.

Step 2

When you have an acne breakout, or a pimple that you need to get rid of fast, be sure to cleanse your skin with a gentle fragrance free face wash, and splash with Luke warm water. Dab or blot the skin with a clean towel.

Step 3

Slice open a frozen cherry tomato, and apply it directly onto the pimple; hold it in place. The ice cold helps to reduce the swelling which can often occur when the pimple is new.
Once you notice the tomato beginning to defrost, continue to rub over your face in circular motions over the infected areas for approximately 10 to 15 seconds or until the tomato smash of juice, seeds, and pulp are visible on your skin.

Step 4

Remove any seeds, tomato skin, or pulp, with a cotton ball, and use a q-tip to gently rub the juice evenly over the pimple, and allow it to dry on your face overnight.
Note:  If you find that it’s too itchy, remove tomato from the clear skin only.
Once dry, you may apply a night cream, or moisturizer (avoiding the infected area).  Make sure you use creams that don’t contain fragrance.

NOTE: This home remedy is for the occasional acne breakout.  If you suffer from moderate to severe acne breakouts, try using the two part system. Which can be found over counter or purchase now at amazon.  Natures Cure

My vegetable garden had an abundance of tomato crop up this year, and so instead of letting all those tomatoes go to waste, they were plopped into a freezer bag.  They will be used for pasta dishes throughout the winter months. As it turned out, it was discovered the frozen tomato was useful in curing an acne breakout overnight.

How to Crochet a Santa Style Doggy Neck Warmer

During the Holidays each year, I will usually make up a nice Holiday sweater for my dog to wear. This year I decided to design and Santa Style Neck Warmer as my free gift to you. Happy Holidays. Enjoy!

Easy Santa Style Doggie Neck Warmer 

Supplies you’ll need
6.5 Crochet hook
Lyon brand- home spun red (yarn A)
Lyon brand -5ply chunky white (yarn B)
Large eye craft needle

Step one: Measure the dogs neck
Create a ch of whatever it takes, to slightly meet the length of the measurement taken. Make sure the ch is not twisted, and join the ends together with sl st.

With yarn A
-       Ch 1- hdc in each ch around.  Join w/ sl st
          Ch 2, dbc in each hdc around.  Join w/ sl st to top of ch 2
          Ch1- hdc in each ch around.  Join w/ sl st
          Attach yarn B, to the starting position of rnd 1.
         Ch 1, work hdc around, join
     Ch 2, Repeat rnd 2. Join w/ sl st.
Fasten off, fold over the white section, and add embellishments to customize to your dogs style.

How To ReUse Cosmetic Pump Bottles: Perfect for Travel Kits, Lotion, or Craft Paint

Neutrogena is a favorite. I particularly like Healthy skin enhancer, which combines three of the skins daily essentials all in one. 

Neutrogena’s healthy skin enhancer is not only a great product, the bottles are equally too good to toss in the trash.

 Mistakes made in the past was reluctantly tossing these little gems after each emptied; all the while completely unaware of how to get one open and re-use it. 

 Not only was it troubling to know a perfectly good bottle was on its way to a landfill, each time the bottle near the last drop of product, my good ol re-cycle, up-cycle, or re-use impulse would kick in, and I'd begin to examine the bottle to see how it might be pried open. 

One day, about to toss the bottle, something inside said " There is a way to open this bottle".  With a little tug at the top, a little bit of effort, and a strong pull, it wasn't going to open that way. 

It always bothered me that there might be another three days worth of product that I couldn't get too because of the pump. 

Once the bottle opened, it was easy to scrape out another three or four days worth of product, AND  opening the bottle saved me from wasting hard earned money on travel kit bottles or compact lotion bottles that were so poorly made they weren't worth the trip to the store.

You or someone you know may love to travel a lot, and would really appreciate the ability to freely make up their own travel kits.  

So without further delay.

You will need

* Used Neutrogena healthy skin pump bottle or any other pump bottle left over from cosmetics.
* A razor (exacto knife type) or razor thin object
* Popsicle stick or (Q-tip) works best
* Small air tight jar (such as old eye cream container) to store remaining product.
* Hot Soapy water

Step 1- Remove the easy peel right off labels. (no need for soaking).

Step 2- Use your razor blade or exacto knife, (carefully position the razor blade in between the clear part of the bottle, and the obvious upper portion) slide the razor into the crease and give it a slight twist to the right.

Step 3-  Take a Popsicle stick, or Q-tip and scrape out the remaining contents of the product and place into another small air tight container.

Step 4- Thoroughly wash the bottle with soapy hot water, and let air dry. 

Step 5- Once the bottle is cleaned use the popcycle stick or other object to push the clear disc pump back down to the bottom.

The bottle is now ready to be ReUsed, and filled with whatever you want to put into it. 

Once the new product has been added, simply snap the lid back into place.  Pump away!

When your bottle has emptied of its contents, repeat the process.

The bottles can be ReUsed again, and again until the bottle breaks or just doesn't work anymore.
